Based in Cranbrook Kent, Richard Gill Architects is a small practice of experienced RIBA chartered architects. Our work includes commercial, educational, retail and health buildings but we specialise in residential and interior work for private clients including bespoke contemporary new build homes, whole house remodelling and refurbishment, extensions and detailed bespoke interior design.
Projects are developed from preliminary discussions, sketch design and virtual modelling through detailed design, planning applications, specification and detailed construction drawings. We take projects through tendering to the appointment of a suitable contractor, the construction stage with contract administration, cost control and reporting, valuation and inspection during construction through to hand-over of the completed project
We work on many listed buildings and liaise closely with planning authorities undertaking the complexities of current planning legislation and negotiating where necessary to achieve a successful planning outcome. We work closely with clients incorporating their needs and ideas into our designs and try to develop simple, practical and elegant space organisation solutions that work for our clients.
We aim to develop a strategy for all projects to ensure efficient energy use and assess buildings in their site context, orientation and surroundings. We work with mechanical and electrical contractors to plan and design a practical regime for managing energy use whether this involves heat pumps or other newer technologies or more traditional systems but we always try to improve the performance of the building by design and insulating to high standards.
Our work covers buildings in the urban and rural environment, Green Belt, special landscape areas and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and our work on listed buildings involves conservation and the sensitive treatment and repair of ancient materials.
